BCT is proud to welcome Broadway’s one and only Seth Rudetsky to Boston for a one-day master class and audition session on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 1 – 4 pm at the BCT Studios, 316 Huntington Ave. in Boston. The star of SethTV and Broadway host on Sirius/XM radio, Mr. Rudetsky is an accomplished author, music director, musician and producer. There isn’t anyone on Broadway who doesn’t know Seth!
Mr. Rudetsky’s appearance is in conjunction with the re-mounting of BCT’s ground-breaking production of “Reflections of a Rock Lobster.” Nominated for an ElliotNorton Award for Outstanding New Script, “Reflections of a Rock Lobster” tells the true story of Aaron Fricke, a Rhode Island high school student who in 1979 successfully sued his school for the right to escort his boyfriend to the prom. BCT was the first children’s theater in the country to tackle issues of growing up gay, bullying, and civil rights in a mainstage production and the reaction from the community was tremendous. Performances of “Reflections of a Rock Lobster” will be March 9 through March 17, 2013 at the Boston Center for the Arts.
“We are honored to bring Seth Rudetsky to Boston to help us demonstrate the important role theater plays in bringing tough subjects to light,” said Burgess Clark, BCT Executive Artistic Director and playwright. “Bullying is an issue facing students on a daily basis and through theater we are able to spark discussion and help students deal with some difficult topics. Seth is an advocate on so many levels, yet he also has a special comedic talent that will make this a truly unique experience for the audience. BCT is very fortunate to have his support both for this play and for our Boston theater community.”
The Master Class will be open to high school actors ages 14 – 20 years old interested in auditioning for a role in “Reflections of a Rock Lobster.” In addition to a discussion and Q&A, Mr. Rudetsky will join Burgess Clark to oversee auditions for the play. The master class and audition will be held on Sunday, January 13 from 1pm to 4pm at the BCT Studio, 316 Huntington Avenue in Boston. To Register, students must be nominated by a teacher, university professor or casting agent. For more information and scheduling please visit www.bostonchildrenstheatre.org/rocklobsteraudition.
