BCT: What was your first show at BCT?
Sarah: My debut role at BCT was Naphtali in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when I was fourteen.
Coming from a family where I have 4 brothers, I was practically accustomed to dressing up in guys’ clothing and roughhousing. But being able to do so on stage? That was awesome.
BCT: What was your favorite role at BCT?
Sarah: This is a tough one. But if I had to choose, I would say Maria in West Side Story. The role was challenging, the story was thrilling and the message was of unequivocal importance. Plus, it was my senior year in high school and my last show ever at BCT, making this experience even more exceptional.
BCT: What other roles did you play at BCT?
Sarah: Josie Pye in Anne of Green Gables, Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Princess Badral-Budur in Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
BCT: Was there a person – staff member or fellow performer – who you remember in particular?
Sarah: I have met so many remarkable people throughout my time at BCT. However, a person who sticks out in my mind is definitely Pat Gleeson, a former director. She served as a friend, mentor and an inspiration. Without her guidance and support, I would never have flourished as much as I did, both personally and professionally.
BCT: What is your favorite BCT memory?
Sarah: Stagemobile wins this one. Wonderful people, gorgeous weather and charming theatricals made for some unforgettable summers.
BCT: What are you up to now?
Sarah: Currently, I’m a senior at Boston College majoring in business management and concentrating in entertainment marketing. Although I’m not pursuing theater as a major, my passion for the arts is still very much alive. I am 1 of 14 members of The Dynamics, an elite co-ed a capella group on campus. I interned for Walden Media my sophomore year summer and for AEG Live/Goldenvoice in LA this past summer. While I am no longer an active performer at BCT, I am still involved – except this time from the business side! I interned last year and now serve as the newest member of the marketing team.
BCT: What message would you like to share with BCTers?
Sarah: While we all may have had varied directors, castmates and experiences – that doesn’t mean that any of us are any less a part of BCT now as we were then. My wish is for alumni to re-connect with the BCT community and give back to an organization that gave so much to them.
